The story of the Karkuret Women’s group is epic. Twenty five years ago, the Kenyan government ousted the women and children from their farms on Mount Kenya. The women became squatters dependent on prostitution for survival. Kenya Works has helped the women since 2005. The culmination of this partnership is a successful posho mill, employing all 25 members enabling them to grind grains and sell to their local community. They now share a needed service within their community instead of being beneficiaries. They are able to share their excess with the needy of their community – a full circle story of success and empowerment.
