A bold, new regional program to end harmful practices against girls in Eastern Africa.

Kenya Works is honored to announce that we have been selected as a key implementing partner in Future4Binti, a bold new regional program to protect girls and young women from harmful practices across Eastern Africa.

What is Future4Binti?

Future4Binti is a five-year, EUR 49 million initiative (2026–2030) funded by the Embassy of the Kingdom of the Netherlands to end Female Genital Mutilation/Cutting (FGM/C) and Child, Early and Forced Marriage and Unions (CEFMU) in Ethiopia, Kenya and Somalia. Led by Amref Health Africa and Plan International, the program brings together 20 locally led, youth- and women-led Kenyan nonprofits to tackle the root causes, systems failures and cross-border dynamics that keep these harmful practices in place.

Launch in Nairobi

The regional launch of Future4Binti was held in Nairobi, bringing together representatives from all collaborating partners across the three participating countries. Kenya Works was represented by our Program Coordinator, Caroline Gitau, who joined fellow practitioners and advocates to align on the program’s shared vision, strategy and governance. The first week of the Kenya-focused roll-out will take place in early March with intensive planning sessions for Kenyan implementing partners, with three Kenya Works team members in attendance as we map out our collective path forward—we are absolutely thrilled to be part of this moment!

Kenya Works’ Role in the Program

As one of the Kenyan partners, Kenya Works will help lead implementation in high-prevalence areas of Kajiado County, where our work is deeply rooted with local communities and government stakeholders. This opportunity builds directly on our long-term commitment to empower vulnerable children and families and to advance community-led human rights, including ending violence against girls.

Through Future4Binti, our team will:

  • Support youth-led advocacy, peer education and community dialogues that challenge harmful social norms and elevate girls’ voices.

  • Strengthen grassroots, women- and youth-led organizations so communities themselves lead and sustain change.

  • Expand access to survivor-centered protection, health and psychosocial services for girls affected by FGM/C and early marriage.

  • Contribute to policy and legal advocacy that improves enforcement of laws meant to protect girls, especially in cross-border settings.

Why This Matters Now

Despite legal protections, harmful practices remain deeply rooted in gender inequality, poverty, climate shocks and conflict, with cross-border areas remaining hotspots for FGM/C and child marriage. The consequences are devastating—school dropout, early pregnancy, maternal health risks and deep psychosocial trauma that reinforce intergenerational cycles of inequality.

Future4Binti matches Kenya Works’ belief that sustainable change must be locally led, gender transformative and grounded in dignity. By combining norm change, stronger local institutions, survivor-centered services and legal accountability, this partnership will allow us to protect more girls, support more survivors and accelerate the end of harmful practices in the communities we serve.

What’s Next?

Over the coming months, Kenya Works will be working with Amref, Plan International, local Kenyan nonprofits, and community leaders to roll out inception activities and co-design locally rooted interventions under the Future4Binti framework. We will share stories from girls, youth advocates and community champions along the way so you can see how this regional investment is transforming lives on the ground.

We invite our supporters, partners and friends to walk with us in this new chapter amplifying the voices of girls, backing youth leadership, and helping to build an Eastern Africa where every girl grows up safe, heard and free from harmful practices.
